I was so honoured to be nominated for this award! Thank you so much kateheartslife for nominating my little blog! This certainly motivates me a whole lot more. It’s also a great feeling to be recognised. The world has gone crazy. So much negativity, anxiety and fear. Terrible news. However, today I got great news. Kate nominated me. This made my day. With all the awful things happening I think we should do more feel good things. For ourselves and each other. We are in this together! Please go and check out Kate’s blog. You will not be dissapointed! Click here for Kate’s blog Thanks again Kate!

What is your dream job?
My dream job without a doubt would be a travel writer! I love travelling and I love writing. I have images of myself on the beach writing about my travels. The freedom and creativity would be awesome. A little hard to do because of my conditions. I’ve decided that I can travel locally and write about little towns etc. South Africa has so many amazing places you are spoilt for choice when it comes to vacay time. Some people love the bush, others the beaches. So, all is not lost. One day when the world returns to normal and we can travel I’d love to start doing road trips to places I haven’t been and blogging about them. I love travelling the world but for now I will settle with discovering the beautiful country I live in!
What is the favourite thing about yourself?
My ability to see the lighter side of things. My blog started because people liked my posts about crazy happenings being in hospital and seeing doctors etc. People find it hard to understand how much I go through but will still laugh about it. I will find the lighter side of it. Most people will tell you that I don’t look sick. I am always smiling and joking around. I’m glad I have this because depression is so real when you have chronic illnesses. For me personally, stress and anxiety cause my Lupus and Fibromyalgia to act up… At the same damn time sometimes! I always say “I’d rather laugh than cry” and that’s how I live my life.
What is your favourite blog to read?
I love raw, real life blogs. I love reading about other peoples lives as there is always a lesson to be found there for yourself. It also makes me connect more with the blogger. I love when people can be open. It’s taken me 6 years to get to the point where I can candidly speak about my illnesses and struggles. It’s good to know you’re not alone and sometimes you get a whole new perspective because of a blog where someone told THEIR story.
What is your favourite book?
By far my favourite book is “A Thousand Splendid Suns”. It’s written by Khaleid Hosseini. I have devoured all his books. He is an amazing storyteller. One of his more famous books is “The Kite Runner”. A tragic but beautifully written story. Even my husband read it and he is not a reader. They did have a movie version but it did the book no justice. So “A Thousand Splendid Suns” is my favourite book and I love Khaleid Hosseini! You should really try and get a hold of his books! Totally worth it!
What is your funniest memory?
My uncle, we are not that far apart in age, used to tease me relentlessly. One day he convinced me to eat dry dog food. The kibble type. He told me it was BBQ flavour. My Grandmother came and saw this and needless to say, someone got a whooping! 😊 How can you do that to a child? He revelled in irritating me. He reminded me the other day how I would try and get him into trouble. I would say to my Grandad “He is looking at me!” and he would get into trouble 😊 With him, when he looks at you, he is scheming so I was totally valid in ratting him out when he looked at me! I knew something was coming! I joke and tell him he has issues because I replaced him as the baby in the family. Side note…. He still schemes and does things to me, like licking my arm or something that will gross me out. He loves the reaction because let’s face it I can be rather dramatic! I guarantee you he will be in a wheelchair scheming!
What is the main thing that Covid-19 times/ lockdown taught you?
I’ve been doing a lot of reflection about Covid as it develops in South Africa. Winter is here and we are going to see our peak. I have learned so much and I am continuing to learn. The poverty we have in the country has been amplified. I really wish I could go out and help but I’m immunocompromised so I can’t. I’ve also seen how some people are out there for themselves and others are doing everything for their community. The stark contrast between the haves and have nots has really come to light. There are new thoughts all the time and I try and blog about them. We are in this together, worldwide. So, I’m even learning about quarantine in different countries. Very interesting.
Do you believe in ghosts?
Yes and No. I love everything paranormal. I have gone on two mystery ghost tours that was a lot of fun. I love all the stories. I believe that there is residual energy that remains. E.g. someone died a tragic death or a mother looking for her child calling out for her. It replays over and over again, I believe. I think what we see is the residual energy left behind. I did see an episode of TAPS back in the day where something clearly pulls on of the guys’ jacket! Shock and Horror! I can’t quite explain it but it’s a yes and no kind of thing. I’m still trying to make sense of it all in my mind. There are some experiences that are just not explainable that must be paranormal. FYI My favourite movie genres are: Horrors and Thrillers. I don’t watch anything else really. If you have suggestions of some good horror/thriller movies or series let a girl know!
Where is your favourite place in the world?
I have to say Phuket. I absolutely loved the place, the culture and of course the food. The reason it’s my favourite place on Earth is because we went on a boat tour to the James Bond Islands. It’s called the James Bond Islands. Check it out online! We were allowed to canoe around the area. I have never seen such breathtaking scenery. It was like a whole other world and I took in every not of it. Well hubs and I were in the canoe and we ventured through this hole. We came to a completely isolated little area. We just sat and sort of meditated on the beauty. The silence. I felt that I was being enveloped by such an amazing energy I had never felt before. The place was breathtakingly beautiful, and I murmured to my husband “God lives here”. I have never experienced that feeling anywhere else in the world. A friend of mine went and also experienced the magic of the place. He had lost his brother and in his own words “The night I sent a lantern up and I could feel the calmness come over me and a peace beyond human understanding that my brother is okay. I can’t recall exactly what I said but it was an exhilarating and amazing experience” How amazing is that?

In your corner 1000%, supporting you all the way; consider me your biggest fan and cheerleader!!
Miss you heaps, sorry I have been scarce but just so busy at the moment. Designing an intervention for adolescent obesity – calling it BodyBoss (because ya can’t tell a teenager nothing – they know everything….. right?). Why BodyBoss? Well because they are the bosses of their bodies, the fuel they put into it, coupled with existential knowledge will ultimately be the consequences they reap….. good fuel – healthy body Bad fuel – unhealthy body…… effects are far reaching extending to extraneous health issues, mental health issues and eventually depression.
So, if a kiddo challenges you (an adult) about food, I say accept the challenge, grasp that hand and immerse yourself in a culinary adventure. This is how…… you talk health food, your kiddo says “I like burgers and chips” you say EXCELLENT!! I was hoping you’d say that. First point, you will have a baffled teenager looking at you, but best of all, take that challenge and make those burgers and chips, from scratch in your own home, from the bun to the last detail.
Then buy a Macca’s burger and chips – deconstruct the Macca’s one – how?? Go hunting for the nutrients…… if you can find any 😂😂😂😂
Visually show your adolescent the difference and what that difference does to their body. I mean after all, the human body is just like the engine of a car, if you want peak performance from your car, you give it the best fuel, oils and services etc….. not so??
Anyhow…. waffled, gotta get my head outta my butt and put this together in a presso and then a report. So spare me a thought and send me some prayers, keep your fingers crossed that it piques someone’s interest and rolls out into schools etc. 🙏🙏🙏🙏

Oh my Neshama. You’re like the angel on my shoulder. Thank you for always believing in me, motivating me and giving me fresh perspectives. And of course for your unending love for this crazy, old crone!
Omg yes !!! I love your idea and I can’t think of anyone better to do it! Kickass attitude. Kickass food. Just an all round badass. Just what teens need!
My unicorn is your testimony! NOT raised on chicken nuggets and other crap. A palette probably better than some adults I know bcoz of Mom’s cooking.
Please tell me what I can do for you!
You know I “stan” you so hard so I’m in! Love, love, love the idea … guess I have to prepare myself to share you with the world.
Ugh. But I can’t be selfish! 🙌🙌🙌
